Dual-Fuel Systems Give You Energy-Saving Features

Rising energy costs are forcing South Carolinians to find more economical and efficient ways to heat and cool their homes.  Dual-fuel systems are becoming more popular as energy prices continue to rise.  These systems, sometimes referred to as hybrid systems, combine two fuel sources to provide a comfortable, economical, uninterrupted heating and cooling solution to the home.

Dual-fuel systems add an electric heat pump to your home’s existing natural gas, propane or oil furnace.  The heat pump and the furnace take turns providing heat to the home based on the outside temperature.  Heat pumps operate by extracting warm air from the outside and transferring it into the home.  Even in the winter, there’s warmth in outside air.  The pump functions most efficiently when the outside temperature is above freezing, providing a warm, moist heat to the home.  As the temperature falls below freezing, the heat pump switches off and the furnace switches on to provide drier, warm air to the home.

Heat pumps replace systems' condensing units so they act as the home's air conditioning unit in the summertime. The pumps also extract cooler air from the outside air and transfer it to the home, thus saving energy.

Dual-fuel systems put homeowners in total control of their heating and cooling environments.  Energy-saving features such as adjustable temperature set points save on utility costs by allowing the heat pump or furnace to bear more of the heating load based on electric or non-renewable fuel costs.  These systems also save energy by taking warm and cool air that's already available and providing it to the home instead of having to generate it.

Dual-fuel systems are proven to save money and energy.  Unpredictable utility rates make it tough for the consumer to choose long-term home heating solutions.  Multiple fuels make sense in today’s world.
