Ductwork Design & Installation Creates Ideal Conditions-HVAC Systems

The ductwork design and installation in a new home can have a big impact on the comfort you enjoy in your home.  If you do not plan ahead and accommodate accordingly, you could end up with less than ideal conditions for your heating and cooling system.

The ductwork is responsible for distributing conditioned air throughout your house.  When the ductwork is designed and installed properly, an efficient cycle is created and your entire house is at the desired temperature.  The freshly conditioned air is pumped out of the supply duct, circulates through the house and ends up at the return duct where it then repeats the cycle.

However, if the ductwork design and installation are done poorly, you can lose conditioned air to the outside and get inconsistent cooling and heating in your home.  This happens when something inhibits the flow of air from the supply duct to the return duct.  The air pressure will start to rise in the area around the supply duct and eventually reach a point where the conditioned air is being pushed through walls and leaked outside.  This is air you have already paid for that is being lost.

While this is happening, the area by the return duct will experience a drop in air pressure.  This drop can cause air from the outside to seep in.  Now you have two different temperature zones in your house, neither of which are the temperature you would like.  You can pump up the air conditioner to compensate but your system will have to work much harder than it should.

Ductwork design and installation is important to consider from step one.  Much of the ductwork becomes inaccessible after installation, and if the installer does not follow strict installation guidelines, the system may start to leak, which will be difficult to fix.  In order to prevent this, find an HVAC technician who is reliable and trustworthy.
