Set Your Whole-House Humidification System To Drive Energy Savings Up This Year

A whole-house humidification system not only keeps the air in your home moist and comfortable, it can increase your energy savings, too.   Changing the relative humidity of the air by 10 percent is roughly equal to gaining one degree Fahrenheit in temperature. Not only that, but drier air makes you feel cooler than the temperature actually is; this is caused by moisture evaporating from your skin, which cools the body. As an example, a 69 degree Fahrenheit temperature with 35 percent humidity feels like 72 degrees Fahrenheit with 19 percent humidity. And, when you lower your thermostat even 3 degrees, you can cut your annual heating expenses by up to 5 percent.

A whole-house humidification system is more efficient and easier to maintain than a smaller room or area humidifier. You won't have to refill a whole-house humidifier every day (as with most small models), and you don't need to clean it as frequently. Also, whole-house systems are often built into the existing heating and cooling framework, so there's no need to make space for a new appliance.
