We're all familiar with warranties on appliances and electrical devices, and many of us opt out of buying additional coverage on many of these purchases. However, when purchasing any type of cooling and heating equipment for your home, warranties that offer additional coverage provide valuable services not found within the basic warranty that comes with each unit.
Basic warranties typically require no registration of your purchase and are usually specific to each part of the equipment. For instance, with Lennox products, basic warranties cover separate time periods on each of three categories, parts, compressor and heat exchanger. The time limit depends upon the Series type and model.
A homeowner's options increase when he or she decides to register the purchase and buy additional extended warranty coverage. Lennox has two kinds, their Limited Extended Warranty and their Complete Care Plus Extended Warranty. Trane has an extended warranty option for all its products as well. Lennox's Complete Care Plus HVAC warranty covers not only their products, but also other HVAC equipment that's in the home, plus it gives the homeowner transferable benefits should the homeowner decide to sell the home. Trane has a Registered Limited Warranty Transfer Option that provides the identical benefit. Transferable options can be added after the initial purchase is registered.
Registration, either online or in the store, within the first 60 days is required for all extended warranties along with a commitment to routine maintenance as suggested in each product manual. Extended warranties can be purchased any time up to five years after the initial purchase, but can be voided if routine maintenance is not followed. An extended HVAC warranty protects the homeowner's investment and increases the value of the home.
As you know, South Carolina's Midlands stay hot and humid during much of the summer, so properly maintained equipment is a must.
